The parents of this student from Kallakurichi district are both daily wagers. The father, who was employed in construction jobs, has not been able to work of late after he suffered a fracture. The student's brother is in Class 11 in a government school. The family has a cow which helps them supplement their income with milk.
First year, the student was able to pay her fees with a loan from a women's self-help group. Second year, they were not able to secure funds and, after searching online, requested Aalayam for help and we have helped her. The college principal has confirmed that the student has no arrears and has 95% attendance. This year for last semester, Aalayam hopes to raise a sum of Rs. 8,000 to assist the student with fees.
